The Velveteen Rabbit
When I was 10 years old, my friend gave me a beautifully illustrated version of "The Velveteen Rabbit". Over the years this book went missing and it wasn't until recently that I realized it was gone. I found a copy at a garage sale, but since it is still a bit over Maxton's reading level I decided to share it all with you. It is very short (since it is already the 11th of April) and is about a rabbit so that ties in with Easter, right? I am excited to read this book again after so many years. I will post comments after I have read it. If you can't find a copy or don't have time to go to the library, you can read it online in digital form. It you search for "The Velveteen Rabbit" you will find several options for online reading.

This was the perfect book for this month! Such a sweet story. I love stories that take me back to the simple joys of life, and this one does it for me. Thanks for suggesting it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! I love this book. It makes me feel with all that comes with aging it really is a beautiful thing and I am still hoping to become real!
ReplyDeleteI am sad to say that when I went to read this story, I had again lost the book... Apparently I am not supposed to have a print copy. So I read it online. I have as yet to form an opinion on this story. As a story it intrigued me. But then my "English Major" brain took over and started to over analyze when I should have just been enjoying. I started thinking, "what if my toys suddenly became real?" I don't think I would be okay with that. Maybe it is just my lack of imagination. Anyway, I am going to read it again. I will let you know how it turns out this time.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Breanne's grammar post made me edit this comment several times to make sure my grammar was right. Oh the shame if it is not correct. Miss you Breanne!
Great choice, Laura. For some reason I always read this story with a thick British accent (in my head). It makes it more interesting and frankly I can't read it in a normal voice anymore!
ReplyDeleteI love the "coming of age" story, but told from the point of a rabbit/toy. They boy doesn't ever seem to grow up in the story. It is completely about the toy.
I always wanted my toys to become real. But more than that I wanted to find a magical wonderland that was my very own. Obviously that didn't happen. But it was a nice idea. (I also had a lot of conspiracy theories about my birth...I thought for sure one day I would find out that I was adopted. I always wanted to be more important than I actually am!!)
I hope my grammar post didn't do any damage! You know it was just to make you all laugh...
