Better Late Than Never
Right? Sorry I've been so slow in posting this - Breanne asked me a while ago, but I've been dithering too much about what book to choose. I finally settled on Man's Search for Happiness by Elder Ballard. This should be an easy one to give everyone a break for the summer months; you can probably read it in a Sunday afternoon, and most of you should have read it at least once already. I know I read it many times on the mission. Anyway, I kept thinking of this book as we read the last one, so I figured I'd suggest it. Hope you all enjoy!

I keep forgetting to post a comment, but I did read part one of Man's Search for Meaning. I thought it was intriguing and not at all what I expected. He warned in the beginning that it wasn't just a story of what he suffered, but I think I was still expecting more cohesive information. I wondered how he was caught, what he did wrong, what the timeline was like, etc. I think this time around I was looking more for a story and less for illustrated principles. If I read it again I would have a different perspective and I think I would enjoy it more. I did think that overall he maintained a very good attitude and I liked the ways he showed how he was benefited by forgetting his own well-being and focusing on helping others.
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, Sam kept picking it up when he had a minute or two and reading little bits and pieces from the second half, which he found very interesting. He agreed with much of what Mr. Frankl had to say about logotherapy.
Finally, I want to note that I am probably not going to get Man's Search for Happiness read, seeing as how Sam's copy is missing (probably at his mom's house) so we don't have one. I'm thinking the library here doesn't carry that one either. :) Anyway, I guess that one would be a good one for me to get used for a few cents from Amazon!
